Since Montessori is not a “trademarked” name it is often difficult to recognize and understand what defines a true Montessori classroom. There are many establishments that do not represent what Montessori intended at all. The following are general guidelines when looking for a true Montessori: Trained Montessori teachers who are respectful to each child’s needs. Organized classrooms containing a majority of the Montessori materials also called the prepared environment, a visible community of learners who are engaging in self directed discovery in all areas of language, writing, science, math, practical living, art, history, and botany and geography.
